Public sector organizations run some of the most sensitive and mission critical workloads in the world, but the need for stringent security requirements doesn’t need to hinder their ability to adopt modern, transformative technologies. To help agencies minimize risk while also empowering them to scale cloud-native innovation, we are pleased to announce that Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS GovCloud is prioritized for Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP®) JAB Authorization

FedRAMP is a government-wide program that promotes the adoption of secure cloud services across the federal government by providing a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services. There are two approaches to obtaining a FedRAMP authorization -- a provisional authorization through the Joint Authorization Board (JAB) or an authorization through an agency. The Joint Authorization Board includes the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and General Services Administration (GSA) and is convened to review cloud services that are and should be used throughout the government.

JAB prioritization criteria consist of three categories: demand, FedRAMP ready, and preferred characteristics. The most important of these criteria being the ability to demonstrate government-wide demand for the technology. By Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS GovCloud reaching prioritization status, the JAB recognizes there is strong demand among government agencies for the hybrid cloud application platform.

Launched in March of 2021, Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) is a jointly offered, turnkey application platform operated and supported by Red Hat and AWS that makes it easier for customers to build, scale and manage containerized applications on AWS. Being prioritized for FedRAMP JAB authorization enables organizations in highly regulated industries to build, deploy and run Kubernetes-based applications on Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS GovCloud while addressing key government security and compliance requirements.
